Couldn't Start DropBox - Permission Error

Couldn't Start DropBox - Permission Error

Hello. Out of no where Dropbox stopped working with the above error. Had computer crash, and loaded new install on new computer. Same issue. Also, now it occurs on my old laptop. Nothing has changed and have been using Dropbox forever. Now I am stuck with out of date files because of sync, and little help with no working solution from tech support. This has been going on for over a month! My error reads:

Hey @equinefacilitydesign, thanks for reaching out.

Since you've tried reinstalling the desktop app, could you clarify if you've also given an advanced reinstall a shot?

Also, you mention that you've been in touch with our Support team. Could you let me know the ticket ID so that I can have a better look into this for you?

Cheers!

Hello. My ticket information is Ticket #12010337: DB: Dropbox Error, and have not heard back from John in almost a week. I hired an IT consultant to try and remedy this and it seems to have worked, but waiting on an updating Dropbox account message which has been going on almost all day. Thanks

I'm glad to hear that your initial concern was resolved, @equinefacilitydesign

I found your ticket and have made sure to pass your comments along to the specialized member of the team reviewing this for you.

In the meantime, could you temporarily close any third party apps (like an antivirus) in case that triggers a different response?

Thanks for the reply. I turned off antivirus and still got the same error.

Sorry to hear this persists @equinefacilitydesign.

If you're comfortable with this, could you create a new OS profile on your computer and try to install our desktop app there?

Thanks for the idea, but what if I put my local files in a different folder; uninstalled DB; created a new Dropbox account; and copied files to that one? and then deleted my old DB account. I also found one DB business team folder remaining on my account which I cannot delete nor does that person exist any more so how can I get rid of it, and id it what is causing my problems? Thanks

That sounds way more drastic than what I suggested @equinefacilitydesign.

If you follow my previous suggestion and find out that you don't get the same error when installing and running our desktop app on a new OS profile, this would mean that there's some sort of mis-configuration on your current OS profile.
