Dropbox error

"This is usually because of a permission error"....

Was trialling dropbox business, realised it wasn't what I needed, and that I just needed to upgrade my personal account.  Now I cannot access my personal dropbox on my laptop.

I have tried so many things... I hope someone can help.

Hi there @UK2020, thanks for reaching out to us.

As a first step, could you have a look at this article to see if any of the suggested tips do the trick for you?

If not, could you send me the full error log that you're getting, so that I have a better understanding of the issue?

Keep me posted, cheers!

Thanks for your swift reply, @UK2020

Could you try a simple reinstall of the desktop app by following the steps below:

  • Make sure that you save and quit all programs that access files in the Dropbox folder.
  • Stop the Dropbox desktop app from running (if it is).
  • Uninstall Dropbox.
  • Reboot your computer to make sure the uninstall is complete.
  • Download and install the newest version of the desktop app.

Let me know how it goes, cheers!

Hi Lusil,
I have tried a simple reinstall several times with no success. Any other options?

Thanks for confirming that for me, @UK2020

Did you also try an advanced reinstall? Maybe that will do the trick.

Hi
Also did advanced reinstall...
I cannot rename or delete the Dropbox folder on my c: drive because it 'is open" or "in use". I have closed all files, folders on any devices where Dropbox may have been accessed.
If a folder is shared with someone, and they have a file open would this cause this error message?

Also, I can open on other devices, just not on this one. I thought it was to do with number of devices, but I made sure I had less than 3

Thanks for getting back to me, @UK2020

Have you made sure that there aren't any tasks running that are related to the Dropbox desktop app from your Task Manager?

If you find any, could you end their process and try again?
