Couldn't start Dropbox error message

Couldn't start Dropbox error message

davidellis4
Explorer | Level 3

I have been using Dropbox for a number of years on Windows 10, without problems. I now get a message "Can't start Dropbox" every time I start the laptop. I have not changed my user name or Home folder location or name, as far as I am aware. Do I still need to re-install Dropbox, as other posts on this subject suggest?  The error file link on the message is: file:///C:/Users/david/AppData/Local/Temp/dropbox_errorg8e2jf58.txt

Thanks

Hey @davidellis4, thanks for reaching out to our Community and happy Monday!

I'm afraid I cannot access the error log from the link.

Would you be able to take a screenshot of it, or copy and paste in your next reply, so I can investigate?

Thanks!

Thinking about it, will I have to post the whole error file, as it is on my C drive??

Hey there, @davidellis4

Sorry to jump in, but we would need the entire message you see when you click on the hyperlink.

We need to be able to analyze it, and then send you the appropriate next steps.

Thanks

I assume you want me to copy & paste the whole file as I don't seem to be able to attach files here? Doesn't mean anything to me!

Hi @davidellis4, If you're not on a Dropbox Basic plan with more than 3 devices connected, could you try an advanced reinstall of the app using the steps in this link?

I think I have fixed the problem myself. I found if I right clicked the Dropbox Icon on the desktop there was an option: "Troubleshoot Compatibility". It then had an option "Try recommended settings". That seems to have worked. No need to do an Advance reinstall!

Thanks for you help anyway.
