Hello, I'm been using dropbox for years. All of a sudden it stops working.

Every time I start the dropbox, I first see the situation in the left figure. After a while, I will receive the message as shown in the right figure. When I click the link "C:\Users\jinming\AppDat", I get the error message below. Please help!

Hey @jinming, thanks for reaching out to us here!

Could you try the steps outlined here to see if that does the trick and allows the app to start?

Let me know how it goes!

Hi Daphne,

Thank you for your response. I follow the steps until the first bullet point in step 5. After I type in the command and hit enter, the command prompt does not respond. Do you have any idea?

Thanks for getting back to me here @jinming!

It looks like you've just entered the commands wrong there which is why it wasn't responding.

The "D:\Dropbox" is an example of the folder folder location, so if your Dropbox folder is in the default location, the first command you would be something like:

icacls "C:\Users\jinming\Dropbox" /grant "%USERNAME%":(F) /T

Could you try that and see if that works? Of course, you would need to alter "C:\Users\jinming\Dropbox" if your Dropbox folder is located in another place.

Keep me posted!

Hello Daphne,

Thank you. D:\Dropbox is the right path for my dropbox folder.

Here is some additional information. In the preference window, I don't see the normal layout in this sync tab. Instead, it asks me to select the folder. I try to click the button "Selective Sync...", but it does not respond at all.

Thank you,

jinming

Thanks for confirming that @jinming!

Could you try reinstalling the desktop app to see if that helps at all? You'll just need to uninstall the app and then download it again from here.

If you need to, during the set up you can choose the correct location for your Dropbox folder from the option "Advanced settings". Since it's located in D:\Dropbox, you would choose the D:\ as the location.

Let me know if this helps!
