Hello there,

A few weeks ago my hard drive was full and got an error from Dropbox. However there is more than enough space now but the app is still returning the same error every time, it says it can't start. I'm using Ubuntu 16.04. Here's the info on the text file generated:

You could give an advanced reinstall a try in that case.

You'll find all the relevant steps listed here.

Give it a shot and let me know how it goes!

Hi there @gorremu, let's see what we can do on this.

Have you tried a reinstalling the desktop app by any chance?

Before you do this, check if you're on a Basic account and, if you are, make sure that you have two or less already connected devices before continuing with this.

Give me a nudge whenever you have any updates, thanks!

Hi @Lusil , thank you for your reply!

I had three devices connected, my old phone, my current phone and my laptop (ie. the one I'm having trouble with). I had three devices but had only been using too as I had upgraded my phone and have not been using both at the same time.

Regarding reinstalling the app, I think I did? I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but it didn't do any difference. Also, I suspect the uninstallation did not eliminate all the app's files so maybe you could help me uninstall the app?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @gorremu,

You don't need full reinstall. Your configuration seems broken. Just remove the configuration files using following:

rm -rf ~/.dropbox

... and run the application. Will be need relink it anew. When asked, remove the current computer connection instance, it's not need anymore (new gonna create).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply! I thought it was something more like this... unfortunately I already proceeded with the reinstallation and now Dropbox is working again Thanks anyway!

@LusilThank you for your message. I did the reinstall and Dropbox is now working correctly. However, as @Здравко pointed out I don't think it was necessary to go that far. Nonetheless, I am happy to be able to use the app again.

Thanks a lot!
