Drag and Drop not working iOS

Explorer | Level 3

I am on an iPad Pro 2018 using iOS 12.1.1. I have been trying to drag and drop some JPEGs in a folder in Dropbox into GoodNotes 4 and other apps and it does not work. With GoodNotes the JPEG just fails to appear once dragged. When dragging into Yoink, the app gives an error of “loading failed.” I then copied the same files into Microsoft OneDrive and was able to drag and drop from OneDrive into both GoodNotes and Yoink without any problem. So the issue is with Dropbox not iOS or the other apps.

Thank you for your speedy response and invaluable feedback too @Firelock -

As our mobile app's development team are always looking for ways to make the Dropbox experience better, I'll make sure to pass your feedback on.

In the meantime, as mentioned, you can export your files to any third party apps you'd like.

Cheers!

Sorry to hear about this @Firelock - have you tried exporting those photos from Dropbox to those 3rd party apps instead by any chance? Do you get the same errors if you do? Could you share a screenshot so we can have a visual too?

Thanks in advance and please feel free to include any information you think might help our investigation on the matter in your next response here.

Hi Walter, I did try exporting and that works. The functional failure seems to be with the drag and drop.  I’ve embedded a photo of failure below. If you look on the top right it shows the “loading failed” message after dragging the jpeg from Dropbox into Yoink. Doing the same operation with OneDrive works fine.IMG_0716.PNG

Thanks for the additional info and happy to hear exporting works fine for you @Firelock!

Now, as per your inquiry, note that the Dropbox mobile app is a file viewer that allows you to preview the files, photos, and videos in your Dropbox folder directly on your mobile device.

Unlike the Dropbox computer application, the Dropbox app does not automatically store files locally on your device - therefore you won't be able to use drag and drop as you described since the action you're taking is in regards to the file's preview and not the file itself.

Exporting it should resolve this matter though and I'd suggest that you used this method from now on.

I hope this clarifies matters for you and please let me know if you have any further queries.

Thanks for your quick reply. Can you forward this to your development team as a feature request in the future. Since other cloud storage apps like OneDrive can handle drag and drop on iOS I would think Dropbox can figure out a way to do it! Thanks again!
