Dropbox Icon on App Panel on Ubuntu Budgie

Hi I'm looking for an app, applet, or something else that allow me to start and interrupt Dropbox syncronization on Linux Ubuntu Budgie 20.4. I'm not finding anything that helps me to do that.

What should I install to see a Dropbox Icon on my panel? Thanks on advance, I hope someone already solved this problem somehow.

Hi @saturn1; welcome aboard and happy Monday!

To have access to the desktop app's icon on a Linux machine, you'll need to use one of the following desktop environments:

  • GNOME shell (may need the TopIcons extension to get the tray icon)
  • Unity
  • GNOME Classic
  • XFCE with the corresponding Nautilus dependencies

Or else, you may want to use the CLI instead.

I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any follow up questions.

Hi Walter! Thank you for your support. Would you please send me a link with some guide to install a desktop environment like the ones you suggested? I looked for it, and I found so many things even not very updated. It may seem very basic, but I'm new to Linux. Thank you again, regards!

(ps: one thing about the CLI, I tried to use " dropbox lansync [y/n] " -so with No- to stop synchro, but it's not clear what it does, the CLI doesn't say if it's effective or not, maybe I should use stop and restart dropbox daemon? "dropbox start [-i]" and "dropbox stop")

Hey @saturn1, thanks for getting back to us.

Although we can't provide specific instructions on how to install the environments in question, you can search on the web for the relevant steps.

Also, for more information on LAN Sync, you can check out this article

Hope this helps to some extent!
