I can't run dropbox on Debian (stable distribution, Jessie) any more. All I get is a message telling me that I'm running an old version and that I should update. Which I do, using apt. But the current version on linux.dropbox.com/debian/jessie/main is dated 2015.10.28 and it just won't run under any circumstances - it demands an update that just doesn't exist.
How can this problem be fixed?
I have the same problem on Linux Mint 17.2
I had the same problem under Debian Stretch.
Have you tried renaming the $HOME/.dropbox-dist folder? Worked for me.

I'm having similar problem Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa 64 bit
Dropbox says software is out of date, but when download latest software (dropbox_2015.10.28_amd64.deb) it says I am already running that!
Cannot find the hidden folder in $HOME .dropbox-dist - doesn't seem to exist on my system.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Ah - I think we have solved this now. I was looking in the wrong place - there is a folder called .dropbox-dist in my home directory .ie /home/xxxxxx where xxxxxx is my name.
I deleted this. ( suppose I should have renamed it but - ah well ...)
Then reinstalled the latest dropbox ( in my case was dropbox_2015.10.28_amd64.deb)
It then automatically asked me to download the Dropbox deamon - which it did.
Then restarted Dropbox - logged in etc.
So now at least it's reinitialising and will take ages to sort itself out ...but looks like we're now cookin on gas! ( that's a British idiom - sorry)
