Dropbox for Gmail not showing login screen

Yesterday, my Dropbox for Gmail popped up a screen saying I needed to log in, when I clicked the Dropbox icon in gmail. This was odd, as I was still logged into Dropbox when I clicked on the Dropbox icon in my system tray. 

 

In order to get my message out, I tried copying and pasting links into my e-mail, but the person I sent the e-mail to was unable to access the links. 


Today I tried uninstalling the extension AND dropbox, restarting my computer and setting it all up again. Naturally I came up against the device limit, and removed all devices but two, as that's all I need. Then I was able to log in in my Dropbox app in my system tray.

 

However, when I re-install the Dropbox for Gmail extension in Chrome, I get the same screen popping up saying I need to log in. 
I've tried finding something online about this but can't seem to find an answer. I've exhausted the steps I can think of to take. I would appreciate assistance here.

Well, my end goal is not to disconnect Gmail from Dropbox, but to get it working of course! :p

Actually, I had someone reach out to me from the Dropbox team. I thought maybe you had quarterbacked that. Then, the next day, Dropbox/Gmail started integrating properly again. I assumed the team had solved it, but then they reached out for more information. Maybe in checking something they unwittingly set something right. 

I'd still love to know what had gone wrong, but if it never happens again, I guess it won't matter.

Doh! I neglected to mention that when the screen pops up requesting me to log in, and I click the Log In button, the log-in screen shows for a split second, then disappears, and I am returned to the Log In screen again. Consequently I am unable to log in in the Dropbox for Gmail extension at all, and the extension is unusuable.

Hi there @Orion C., I hope you're having a good day so far!

Can you check your connected apps page here to see if the integration is still showing as active in your account?

If it's still showing there, can you try disconnected and reconnecting it again through Gmail?

Thanks very much for your reply, Daphne! I checked there and it's connected.

How do I disconnect it through gmail? Settings, installed add-ons? There is nothing listed in gmail under add-ons, btw, but I have a feeling you mean something else.

Thanks for getting back to me here @Orion C., and apologies for the delayed reply!

 

You should be able to disconnect this from Dropbox when you check the "connected apps" page. You should see this option to the right of the entry there.

Of course, after disconnecting we would have tried reconnecting to see if that did the trick, but not to worry!

Actually, Daphne, I do have something else. I made another post a few hours ago, but I have shared several folders with various collaborators, and for only one of them do I have this problem. It seems to take at least 36 hours for changes he makes to propagate to my dropbox. Very weird. 

I found a quirky work around... copy the files from the shared folder to a new subfolder of the shared folder and Bob's your uncle. VERY weird. 

 

I'm wondering if you've ever heard of this and might have any suggestions.
