Dropbox makes my computer hot

Dropbox makes my computer hot

New member | Level 2

I'm running Dropbox on Ubuntu 18.04LTS.  It's a Dell XPS15.   About month ago, the computer started running hot whenever Dropbox is syncing in the background, and now Dropbox is always syncing.  The fans come on and the whole left side of the keyboard gets hot.  I have to shut Dropbox off to get it to stop.

Any ideas??

Hi @JP_Smith, thanks for posting on the Community!

It sounds like the Dropbox desktop application is using a lot of CPU time, which heats up and needs the fans to come on.

Could you try the steps in the following article to see if they help reduce the CPU usage on your device?

Let me know how it goes!
