Dropbox notifications on Gnome systems

Explorer | Level 3

Dropbox does not comply with this standard https://wiki.gnome.org/Initiatives/GnomeGoals/NotificationSource

And now, because of this, on some gnome-based systems (for example, elementary OS), notifications from the dropbox are dispayed as "Others".

Would you mind sharing some more details with us in regards to your inquiry @Djaler

As you’ve mentioned on your initial post here, you’re running Dropbox on elementary OS, which isn’t currently a supported distro, am I right?

If so & your device doesn't meet our system requirements, it would be worth noting that you can still use the Dropbox desktop application as long as it meets our system requirements for Dropbox on Linux (but keep in mind that the results you’ll get may vary). Since I’ve already created a support request & it’s been reviewed by a higher-level technician, I’m positive that they’ve passed your thoughts & feedback on to the relevant team for future reference.

(Note: For the optimal Dropbox desktop experience on Linux, we recommend using Ubuntu 14.04 or higher and Fedora 21.)

Hopefully this info will make matters a bit more clear to you, though I’m always here if you’d like me to explain any of the above in a bit more depth!

elementary OS is based on Ubuntu 18.04 which is supported distro, so...

Re: Dropbox notifications on Gnome systems

This is an issue, I run Ubuntu 18.04 and this means I can’t disable Dropbox notifications in Gnome. I can only pause them from the client.

As long as the client is spamming me about storage it’s not welcome on my workstation. This means I have to run the open source variant and compile from source.

Hey @Pathe915, please accept my apologies for the tardy reply on my end. It’s my understanding that you’ve currently switched to a headless installation due to your inability to disable these notifications, am I correct in my assumption?

As I’d need to submit that for review to a specialized technician, if you’re still working on the desktop app with the graphic user interface & it’s not too much trouble, could you quickly grab a screenshot for me (omitting personal info)? When you do, please include it in your next message if possible.

Once I have this detail, I’ll do my best to further address your inquiry. Thanks again & I'm looking forward to hearing back from you!

There's no way do disable notifications about that storage space is almost full.
