Dropbox will not launch on either startup or after double clicking on icons/.exe files. It simply pops up on the windows task manager, hits ~ 52 on the CPU counter and disappears. I have added exceptions to the firewall for both exe and updater, reinstalled it (and it was working for that day), and now it doesn't startup again. I also performed the add permissions found on the troubleshooting section of this website with no luck. I am on old Vista. Thank you for any help/suggestions.

I simply only set Avast to Agressive Mode (not moderate mode, which is supposedly more aggressive) and it is now working for the last couple of days. No exceptions are set on the program. Dropbox now launches without problems. Solved!

Hey @razoray,

 

Can you try restarting your computer and completely disable the antivirus? If the app still won't start, please go to 

 

https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Desktop-client-builds/Stable-Build-24-4-17/m-p/218066#M390

 

and download the offline installer for your OS, install the app again with your antivirus software completely turned off.

 

If none of the above helps, please reach out to our support team by raising a ticket so they can check what's going on.

Oddly, after running CCleaner for the registry it started working again for a couple of days. Today it is back to square one. I will give your thought a try.

Hey @razoray, let me know if this works - registry cleaners/software cleaners could really corrupt the system and registry structure , maybe there's something interfering in the system. We'll work it out.

Disabling the antivirus but not adding exceptions allowed it to boot up fine! Now the question is how to make all work simultaneously. Antivirus is Avast.

Wow, that's great @razoray !

 

Here's an article that describes how you can configure your AV to allow Dropbox access . I'd also recommend reaching out to the software's manufacturer for further clarifications since each AV software works differently.
