Dropbox won't start on M1 Big Sur

I've migrated over from my old iMac. Since a previous post has mentioned something about stale permission, I've made sure to follow the advanced reinstallation and ran all commands in the Terminal. Still no joy.

 

I also checked system logs and there are lots of logd_helper deny file-read-data warnings pointing to shared object files in Dropbox.app itself, so I can only assume there are still permission issues.

Hey @qc4, I hope you're doing well! 

I would like you to locate your Dropbox icon (on the menu or task bar, next to your WiFi) and hover your mouse there and let me know what the status of the Dropbox Desktop application is, please. 

Also, what version of the app do you use there?  

It should look something like that: xxx.3.xxx or xxx.4.xxx. 

Keep me posted.

It translates to "initializing" or "launching."

Thank you for all the additional info @qc4

Can you try this permission fix, and let me know if it does the trick? 

- Click on the Dropbox icon in your menu bar and then click your profile picture or initials
- Select 'Preferences'
- Click on the 'Account' tab
- Hold down the 'Option/Alt' key
- Click on the 'Fix Permissions' button (make sure you're still holding down the 'Option/Alt' key)
-You may be asked for your username and password; these are your computer login credentials, not those for your Dropbox account.

Hm, I see @qc4.

Can I ask if you're located in China (based on the screenshots you sent) or if you're using a VPN to connect to Dropbox? 

Is the website available for you?

If you uninstall the app, then re-install it, do you see any different behavior?

I am not located in China. 

 

The website is available to me (that's how I've been accessing my files.)

 

I have reinstalled four times, two of which are through your advanced reinstall help article.
