Failed to add certificate to Third-Party Root Certification Authorities store

Failed to add certificate to Third-Party Root Certification Authorities store

Hi,

Old Windows 7 machine I have not used for a while. Dropbox asks for signing in but complains of old program version and login fails.

I have tried both the online and offline installer (Dropbox 104.4.175 Offline Installer.exe). They both start and then create an error in Event Viewer: "Failed to add certificate to Third-Party Root Certification Authorities store with error: Access is denied."

I uninstalled the old version of Dropbox and removed the remaining registry entries by hand. I have restarted the computer. All Windows Updates are installed.

Still the same result.

Event Viewer details:

Hi @oimgvoiewgfpoimkdszdsoi, thanks for messaging the Community!

Could you try an advanced reinstall of the app using the steps in this link?

This way it should remove the remnants of the old Dropbox desktop application, so that the new one can be installed.

Let me know how it goes!

Yes I have done all the steps listed in the advanced reinstall.

Every launch attempt of either of the Installer.exe:s triggers the same error in the event log. It seems to me quite clearly to be the cause why the install fails.

What root certificate am I missing? What does the installer try to do?
