How can I edit an offline file with Excel on an iPad?

How can I edit an offline file with Excel on an iPad?

Is it possible for an offline file to be editted by Excel?  I thought it was possible, but now I get an error when Excel tries to access Dropbox.

Locate the file in the Offline Files section of the Dropbox app, then export it to Excel, instead of opening the file directly within Excel.

When opening directly from Excel, Excel is trying to connect to your Dropbox account online to get the file. It can't see the offline files within the Dropbox app. You have to start in Dropbox and export.
