How do I fix a 'Word cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges' error?

How do I fix a 'Word cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges' error?

I keep getting this message when trying to open a word document from dropbox.  When I try and grant permission, I'm told I don't have access privileges.  There was a previous thread with the same title that was closed, seemingly with lots of people having the same problem and dropbox responding with the same screenshot request every time and then suggesting a reinstall of word but not coming up with a solution.  None of this works for me. I cannot access my own documents which is incredibly frustrating and stopping me form operating.   Dropbox, have you sorted out a proper solution yet?

Hey @stephenNW3, thanks for reaching out!

To have a better idea of your setup, please let me know which OS and version your computer is using.

Also, did you download the file from your Dropbox account online through a web browser, or do you have the desktop app installed and syncing your files locally?

Let me know and we'll go from there!
