How do I keep the Dropbox desktop app alive?

How do I keep the Dropbox desktop app alive?

Calvin Liu

My Dropbox client works fine on my Windows Server 2016 box. I'm using it to sync up some files uploaded to the FTP service hosted on this computer. Usually it works fine but the annoying issue is that this application may quit from time to time without any notice. So I don't know the sync up process is actually stopped.

I use Windows Remote Desktop to access this server and start the Dropbox client application, then disconnect (NOT LOG OFF) from the server. I didn't notice any regular pattern but looks like it usually keeps running for a week or so then just sliently disappers.

Can someone give me a hint? Why this happens and how to fix it? Thanks.

Hi there @Calvin Liu, thanks for checking in with us.

In general, the Dropbox app isn't designed to run on Windows Server operating systems, but you can find more details about this in this article

Also, since you’re using a third party app to sync content to your Dropbox account, I’m afraid there’s not much we can offer, and you might have to contact them for more info.

Finally, I'd recommend having a look through this thread which briefly discusses using FTP with the desktop app.

I’m more than happy to leave this thread open for any other users who may have any ideas on the matter to suggest.

In the meantime, if you have any other questions, give us another nudge. Thanks!
