I've just moved your post here as it seems that you were having a different issue as what the OP described.
Just to clarify with you, is the issue due to the folder being created in the wrong location?
If the folder is in the same location as the old Dropbox folder, to prevent you having to resync all your files I can suggest pausing sync and copying over the content of the old Dropbox folder into the new one.
I'd suggest a copy rather than moving just to make sure that everything goes smoothly and that you have a backup of the files just in case.
