Incessant nag that I must reinstall to use selectivesync. I bit. Now I'm kicking myself.

I keep getting please reinstall dropbox to be able to use SelectiveSync even after a fresh reinstall.  I'm on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, and have experienced this issue after multiple reinstalls, in the last one I used an uninstaller to clear registry keys and whatnot as well.


I have a 1TB+ Dropbox containing over a million files. I have uninstalled, downloaded and reinstalled and in the reinstall process am asked if I want Online only or Local. I select Local because I DO NOT WANT ONLINE ONLY! The response is that I do not have enough room on my hard drive to do Local so I must do online only.

Also, my files were all synced when I uninstalled (per your support directions). I get messages saying that you'll have to download all those files again yada yada. Which you won't.

Why in god's name do you make it so painfully difficult to navigate your tool? Your UX is horrible. Gives us ZERO confidence that you have any idea how important our files are to us.

I certainly won't use Selective Sync because I have no idea if those files will be safe. NONE.

Hi @Jerry H.14, thanks for messaging the Community!

 

I'm sorry to hear about this. Have you tried an advanced reinstall of the app using the steps in this link?

 

 

Bear in mind that Smart Sync (which allows files to be online-only or local) and selective sync (which keeps entire folders from syncing to your computer) are different features, could you clarify which feature you're referring to? Are you certain that you have enough free space on your computer in order to have all the files marked as local?
