I can't access my dropbox files directly from my desktop but i can view them when i click on 'View on dropbox.com'. get the error code above when i try to use desktop link. i also cannot view mp4 files or see all files at once so i must check each individual one and start again at the top of the list.

You're trying to preview a file that's within another file. In this case, you're trying to view an MP4 file that'ss inside of an RAR compressed archive. Dropbox can't preview files within archives. You need to extract the file on your computer before you'll be able to view it. That can't be done on the Dropbox website.
Looking at your screenshot, it looks like you've associated RAR files with the Dropbox executable, which won't get you anywhere because Dropbox can't open files. Find the file in Windows Explorer and right-click on it. Select Open with and see what applications are listed. You'll need something like WinRAR or 7Zip to open it.

I'm not sure what you mean by third party apps, is there any you recommend?
