I was looking forward to the new desktop app, and thought I read somewhere that you could open Google docs right in the app? If so, it's not clear to me. Sure, you can start a new one from the Windows tray icon. It'd be great to launch a file right into Docs or Sheets.
Hey there @Joe M.10,
You're right in that you can create new Google Docs from the Dropbox icon in your system tray, choosing this option will open a new doc in your default web browser.
Currently with accessing Google Docs, Sheets and Slides from your desktop app, they will open via your web browser.
I hope that this clarifies that matter for you, let me know if you have any other questions about this.
Thanks!

Hi Daphne,
I do appreciate the response. So, it seems that the file has to be a Google doc in the first place, which is fine. Unfortunately, and for some inexplicable reason, the email used to login to Google, must be the same as the one used to login to Dropbox. I do not understand why they did this??? I can't think of one other service provider that does this.
I created my Google account many years ago, several years ago, I signed up for Dropbox several years ago, and by this time I have my own domain. This effectively breaks this functionality for me. I do hope they change it.
Hey @Joe M.10,
If you need to change the email address you use for your Dropbox account so that it matches your Google account email, you can do this easily with the steps outlined in this article here.
Other than that, I'd like to thank you for your feedback on this and I've made sure to pass along your comments to our dev team for review.
Let me know if you have any other questions - thanks!
