Clearly this smart sync is a huge data hog. Because we have limited data, I can't for the life of me understand how since the new upgrade to smart sync, which was never asked for, we use up our 500G ever month within just a few weeks. Is there anyway to remove the smart sync off our account?
Yes we have now taken off the extension and have updated our one computer with the selective sync as it was before. This did take a whole day to upload and had to be done at another location with unlimited date, as it would have cost us way too much to do it onsite. We now have to tackle our other computer onsite. I think the moral of the story here is for Dropbox not to assume your new and improved will be good for everyone by making it the default, but rather to make it an option for people to choose if it suits their circumstances. This smart sync automation has caused us nothing but problems and money! Who is going to compensate us for this loss? But I am grateful that finally after 3 weeks communication and frusttration, we were given an option of how to get rid of the smart sync off our computers.
Hey there @AngelaM - sorry to hear about this.
At first, could you clarify what kind of subscription your account is on? Is it an individual account on the Plus or Professional plan or are you on a Dropbox for Business Teams plan? If the latter is true, are you a member of the team or the team's Admin?
Note that individuals that no longer wish to use Smart Sync can do so with the steps found in the following Help Center article:

If there are any issues with this process please don’t hesitate to reach back out!

We have a plus account I believe. We pay about $300 per year.
If you're on the Plus plan and you chose to opt-in Smart Sync through the desktop app's preferences indeed, you'll need to follow the steps that are outlined in the Help Center article I linked in my previous response @AngelaM!
Specifically, to disable the system extension:
