Issues with linking to my pc

Issues with linking to my pc

Hello, I'm having an odd issue where I'm linking my personal dropbox fine but then after I have shut down the pc and come back to it I get an error message saying my dropbox has been removed from my pc due to not being linked? I don't see what I can do differently as it initially links fine?

Hey @Andy_Ludlam, thanks for using Dropbox and welcome aboard!

Can you please let me know how long has it been since you first noticed this?

Have you tried re-installing the app at all?

Any additional information is more than welcome!

Hi Walter,

I only added it onto my pc yesterday and have tried re-installing. I've had my work one on there for ages with no issues but for some reason my personal one will go on there and be listed in the folders area where quick access is etc and then after a shut down I get the error saying it wasn't linked and has been removed but it was linked and shows as linked if I go on dropbox.com before I do a shut down.

Hey @Andy_Ludlam, have you successfully been able to connect your work and personal accounts via the web online?

Could it be that the team admin has allowed for each member to be able to link only a single account on each computer?

Hi Lucil,

I don't want to link my work with my personal for obvious reasons. There hasn't been an issue with my work one at all it's just that my personal one fully loads onto my pc but then removes itself the next start up for some sort of linking issue?

Oh I see! Sorry for the misunderstanding, @Andy_Ludlam

Is it possible that there's a third party app, like a security or antivirus software that's affecting this?

Could you have a look at your Security tab and let me know if the device still shows as linked to your account?

I'll take a look when I get home, would the antivirus not have blocked my work one if that was the case?
I know it's not linked as I clicked on my pc this morning before I left and it had unlinked itself again.

You might be right on this, but just for troubleshooting purposes, give it a shot whenever you have a moment.

Also, could you clarify if you are using the desktop app directly on a personal device or if it's via a virtual machine?

Hi Lusil, I wouldn't say I'm using the app as such more just using it through my folders and quick access, I have attached a couple of screenshots showing it on my desktop screen and also in my quick access but then on the next start up I get the error message which I have also attached an image of. From reading it, it does seem as if it's removed my personal due to it not being linked to my work one but if I link them does that mean all who have access to the work one will also have access to my personal one? I am not the owner of the work dropbox.

Thanks,Dropbox issue.pngScreenshot 2021-04-12 191327.pngScreenshot 2021-04-12 185853.png

Hi @Andy_Ludlam, when you pair the personal and work accounts, this allows you to have two separate Dropbox folders, namely the personal one you're having issues with on your machine, and another for the work account.

The team admin won't be able to see any files on the personal account.

If you need any more details, feel free to message back!
