The latest DropBox update is causing Windows Explorer (Windows 10) to start slow and hang intermittently. When I start Explorer, it shows, "Working on it..." and eventually I can navigate folders. After a few clicks, it hangs again. Task manager shows "Not Responding" during these periods. Event Viewer is not showing any errors.
Thanks!
...I've done troubleshooting with safe mode, drivers, and services. DropBox is definitely the culprit.
Yes, I am also getting this as of 3.14.5.
Disabling the two shell extensions does not fix - needs a full uninstall.
Have uninstalled as no functionality works - include "save as" in all other programs.
I'm downloading the 3.12.6 offline installer right now. I'll let you know if this fixes the problem. Hopefully, it will because I use Dropbox for two businesses, as well. If I can't get my personal account working, I'm going to have to switch everything to Google Drive or One Drive.
I just installed 3.12.6. You can download it at https://www.dropboxforum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/203932093-Stable-Build-3-12-6.
I renamed DropboxUpdate.exe to DropboxUpdate.exe.DO_NOT_RUN in an attempt to keep DB from updating. However, I have read this will ultimately cause Dropbox from syncing correctly. We'll see. May have to come up with another solution to keep it from updating (hopefully, Dropbox will come up with an actual fix).
Hi James,
Thanks for the report. We are looking into the issue.

Thanks!
Hi James,
Does the issue persist even if Dropbox is not running?
Thanks!
John
I can't be certain, but it seemed that even after exiting Dropbox, Explorer would still hang. Had to do an entire uninstall. But, like I said, I can't be 100% certain on that.
Hi J.,
Does the "Save As" issue go away after you uninstall?
What happens when you "Save As" in other programs?
