My desktop app dropdown doesn't have notifications

My desktop app dropdown doesn't have notifications

awelfle
Explorer | Level 4

A while ago I changed my preferences to be included on beta releases for Dropbox. But what happened was that the dropbox downdown menu in my toolbar got a lot less feature-rich. It went from something that showed me recent activity, notifications about my two dropboxes (personal and work) and stuff like that.

Now it’s just really plain and not useful. It’s like I lost features. Here’s a screenshot:

Screenshot 2018-04-24 14.53.59.png

What it used to look like, and what I'd like it to look like again, is something more like this:

mac.png

After following instructions from Dropbox, I turned off the beta features, and reinstalled the app, but nothing happened. Then I went and manually installed the latest version, but still, nothing happened.

Dropbox has been NOT at all helpful in this. Has anyone encountered this, and how did you fix it?

Hi awelfle, welcome to Dropbox Community!

Can you provide me with a screenshot of the computer you are using (omitting any personal information) in order to have a better image of what is going on?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

Hi, Norah! I'm happy to, but I'm sorry — can you clarify what you actually want me to screenshot?

Hey awelfle

Apologies for the miscommunication. I was referring to the latest stable version of the Dropbox desktop app here in order to be able to understand why you were not able to see the Notifications.

It seems that you are pressing alt and clicking on the Dropbox icon instead of simply clicking and this is why you are not able to see the Notifications.

Let me know if this is the case!

Hi, Norah!

Thanks for the clarification. Here's the version I'm running: v48.4.58 (See screenshot).

I went and re-downloaded and installed that version of Dropbox, and I discovered something interesting. Immediately upon installing and clicking the dropbox icon in the menu bar, I got the right menu:

 Screenshot_2018-04-25_12_24_14_2_.pngScreenshot 2018-04-25 12.24.14.png

However, as soon as I released the dropdown, and then re-clicked it, it went back to the old, less-rich version:

I can assure you I'm not right-clicking or holding down any modifier keys.

It looks like once it starts up and finishes its installation process, it reverts to this.

Thoughts?

Hey awelfle

Thanks for the additional information, I’m sorry to hear that this issue is still going on.

Can you check the mouse Settings as this seems like an unusual behavior.

If none of this is the case then I will need to ask you to raise a ticket with our team here as we need to further investigate with all our tools available.

Once you’ve raised the ticket please include the ID and I’ll make sure that a colleague handles your case asap

Thanks in advance for your reply!

Hey @awelfle - how are you today?

Just a quick note on this. Have you tried disabling and re-enabling your notifications using the desktop app as a first step to troubleshoot this?

Kindly note that you can disable/enable notifications on the desktop application by following these steps:

1) Click on the small Dropbox icon in your menu bar.
2) Click on the gear icon
3) Select "Preferences..."
4) Toggle the boxes of the notifications you'd like to enable or disable.

I know this is not much of a solution rather than an effort to look into this and if you don't mind , please give this a shot and let me know if it helped!

Hi, Walt3R!

Thanks for the suggestion! I did that — so although I don't have a gear icon (there is no iconography in my Dropbox dropdown, which is the problem, of course), I selected Preferences... and turned off my notifications.

Then I quit, and relaunched Dropbox. No change.

Then I went back to notifications, toggled the notifs back on, quit, and relaunched.

Still, no change.

Does that tell you anything useful?
