My dropbox is stuck in a mode of syncing and Indexing. I let it run for a while but then the dropbox icon closes. When it finally opens I'm back to where I was before the crash. Not sure what to do. Can't use a lot of my files and the constant syncing is destroying my battery. Using the most recent dropbox on Mac. I have removed from my dock and computer. I have reinstalled and it's still doing the same thing.

Thanks for giving a reinstall a try - definitely helps in taking that troubleshooting step out of the equation.
Could you also check if you have any third party app that could be hindering the syncing/startup process of the desktop app, like a security program or an antivirus? Additionally, could you ensure that you have configured your firewall to work with Dropbox?

Thanks for getting back to me. My firewall is listed as off. Says all incoming connections to this computer are allowed.
Would CleanMyMac stall this? It looks like that is the only item I see that could be an antivirus.
Although I can't say for certain, can you give it a try and temporarily close/disable it?
