My mobile app on my Android keeps crashing

I've been using dropbox on-n-off for some years now.
Now (lockdown!) when it's more critical it just keeps crashing

Tried updating, then uninstall-reinstall. No luck

Hi there @Rusi, thanks for checking in with us. 

 

At first, just to make sure I have a better understanding of your concern, could you clarify at which point in time does the mobile app crash? Is it when you try to launch the mobile app, or when you do something specific?

Right at launch : the blue screen+ centered icon appears for about 4 seconds. And then vanishes.
I tried changing password and re-installing the app thinking it would give me a login.
No luck

Thanks for your swift reply, @Rusi

 

Could you try temporarily closing any antivirus and third party apps, like security software, that might be hindering the startup process? Could you also make sure that you have configured your firewall to work with Dropbox?

I have no anti virus to my knowledge
Nor any firewall configured
(This is an android phone)

Following your suggestions I did
Goto settings Applications Dropbox
And cleared cache data and force stop.
Still the same

Thanks for trying those out and apologies for the confusion, @Rusi

 

Just to make sure that we cover as much initial ground as possible, could you check if you're on a Basic account by going to your Plan tab, and also having a look to see if you have more than three devices linked on your Security tab?

Thanks for your continued interest!

Plan shows as basic.
Linked devices show my 2 computers (desktop, laptop).
I had 3 including this phone.
As described above I unlinked phone thinking I may get a login prompt but no go.

Just FYI : From my phone's web browser I see my files.

Added later

Rereading my earlier replies I see I had not mentioned the unlinking as I had imagined. That was done a few days ago

I had updated from play store just before starting this thread though it seems a new version has become available meanwhile

Could you clarify if you're tried the following exact steps:

  • Uninstalling the mobile app. 
  • Rebooting your device. 
  • Reinstalling the mobile app. 

Please note that, if you're on a Basic account and you have more than three devices currently connected on your account, you'll need to unlink down to at least two devices to proceed with this process.
