An advanced reinstall, by following the steps in Stefanie's reply on the thread linked above, is still the best method to fix most issues with the Dropbox client. I beleive there's also a Permissions Fix button in Dropbox Preferences on a Mac, though I'm not certain of that as I'm a Windows user.
