Permission problem on Ubuntu

Permission problem on Ubuntu

Hi! After the upgrade of Dropbox on my pc (Linux Ubuntu), the app doens't start anymore and gives this error:

This is usually because of a permissions error. Storing your home folder on a network share can also cause an error.

I've already tried to:

- follow this official guide https://help.dropbox.com/it-it/installs-integrations/sync-uploads/stuck-syncing

- delete the ~/.dropbox, ~/Dropbox folders

- reinstall the latest version of Dropbox

Anyone with the same problem?

Hey @andreag3, let's see what we can do on this together.

Since you've already done some troubleshooting - great work by the way! - could you also try an advanced reinstall

Note that if you're on a Basic account, since there's a three device limit, you'll have to make sure that you have two or less already connected devices to proceed.

Let me know how it goes, cheers!

Thank you very much for the support. I only have 2 devices, plus the one on which I'm having problems. I tried to follow the advanced installation guide, but I still get the same problem. I tried to start dropbox from the command line (`dropbox start` command), and I got this log lines: Starting Dropbox...dropbox: locating interpreter dropbox: logging to /tmp/dropbox-antifreeze-9KHRyy dropbox: initializing dropbox: initializing python 3.7.5 dropbox: setting program path '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/dropbox' dropbox: setting python path '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431:/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/python-packages.zip' dropbox: python initialized dropbox: running dropbox dropbox: setting args dropbox: applying overrides dropbox: running main script dropbox: load fq extension '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/cryptography.hazmat.bindings._constant_time.cpython-37m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/cryptography.hazmat.bindings._openssl.cpython-37m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/cryptography.hazmat.bindings._padding.cpython-37m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/apex._apex.cpython-37m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/psutil._psutil_linux.cpython-37m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/psutil._psutil_posix.cpython-37m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/tornado.speedups.cpython-37m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/wrapt._wrappers.cpython-37m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/PyQt5.QtWidgets.cpython-37m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/PyQt5.QtCore.cpython-37m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/PyQt5.QtGui.cpython-37m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/PyQt5.QtNetwork.cpython-37m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/andrea/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-102.4.431/PyQt5.QtDBus.cpython-37m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' Done! andrea:~ $ Tried to trace without a logging context: ERRO [rust/nucleus/c_api/src/panic.rs:36] NUCLEUS PANICKING, panic_file: rust/dropbox/events_c_api/src/lib.rs, panic_line: 147, panic_info: Tried to trace without a logging context: ERRO [rust/dropbox/dbx-thread/src/priority.rs:133] Failed to set current thread priority, nice: 10, err: Permission denied (os error 13) (already panicking, not panicking again) NUCLEUS PANICKING -- "Tried to trace without a logging context: ERRO [rust/dropbox/dbx-thread/src/priority.rs:133] Failed to set current thread priority, nice: 10, err: Permission denied (os error 13)" at "rust/dropbox/events_c_api/src/lib.rs":147 Tried to trace without a logging context: ERRO [rust/nucleus/c_api/src/logging_events.rs:1] event: nucleus_panic, file: "rust/dropbox/events_c_api/src/lib.rs", line: 147, message: "Tried to trace without a logging context: ERRO [rust/dropbox/dbx-thread/src/priority.rs:133] Failed to set current thread priority, nice: 10, err: Permission denied (os error 13)" (already panicking, not panicking again) ^C

I realized that the log lines are wrong formatted and they are unreadable. I've uploaded the logs here https://www.dropbox.com/t/mspJs31hmqAZKWND

Thanks for link, @andreag3.

However, I'm unable to preview the contents. Could you send it to me as a shared link, instead?
