Powerpoint does not start until I pause synching

Powerpoint does not start until I pause synching

Whenever I try to open PowerPoint on my mac (regardless of whether I'm opening a file that is in a Dropbox folder or a file somewhere else, or simply opening Powerpoint on its own) the software will hang and not complete loading until I pause dropbox synching.

The issue seems related with Smart Synch and files that are currently "online only". Powerpoint seems to be trying to force Dropbox to download a bunch of online-only files before opening (these are files that date back several months).

The easy solution is to pause dropbox, which "un-hangs" PowerPoint which then opens within seconds. However, having to pause Dropbox every time I launch powerpoint means I forget to re-activate synching half of the time, which creates a number of issues.

Why is this happening and what do I do to make it stop?

Hi there @BasilioNoris

Thanks for reaching out to us - let's see what we can do on this together!

From what I understand, these files you're trying to access are at first online-only. Could you let me know what happens if you right-click on the file and manually select the file to be local before opening it?

Let me know what you find!
