Problem with opening a word file

We are sharing documents via dropbox. Recently, we got a trouble when we open our documents. For example, I open a word file, it shows error
"This document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create links from other documents to this document." I am then click OK, It shows another error " The file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents." I am wondering what does it means. Does there any help can fix my problems as soon as possible?

Hey Candy!

Could you try to stop Dropbox, then try to open your file again?

This kind of problem is usually not caused by Dropbox but internal problems with Word.

If one Word document won’t open, then it doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with that document. It might be something wrong with the workstation or the version of Word on the workstation. To9 troubleshoot this problem you need to:

First, try opening other Word documents on the workstation. If nothing opens on the workstation, then it might be a bigger issue.

If other files will open, then you can try opening the file on another workstation on your network. This will you will be sure that the problem is with the Word document itself and not something peculiar on the workstation.
If this does not help you then recover your document and word files with the help of Word File Repair Tool. It is the best repair tool that is especially designed for repair and recover corrupt or inaccessible (.doc) and (.docx) files. It extracts the content from the file and rebuilds a new healthy word file that you can access easily. It effectively recovers document texts along with its other important stuffs like indentation, formatting, charts, hyperlinks, images, tables etc.

If you are getting a problem with opening a word file then you can try these steps to open your word file:

  • Open the problem document in Word.
  • In Word, click File on the Ribbon, and then click Options.
  • Click Add-Ins.
  • In the Manage box, click Templates under View and manage Office add-ins.
  • Click Go.

Corruption of word file could be a major reason behind not opening the word file but you can try the above steps or you can also try third party tool called MS Word Repair Tool. Using this tool, you will be easily able to repair your corrupted word file and then you can open your corrupted word file easily without any hassle.
