After resuming my personal music recording activity; I prepare to send a file to a friend via Dropbox. The friend replied "not Dropbox - it's full of viruses!" Please address this issue.

Your friend doesn't know what they're talking about. There is no virus risk to your files by storing them on Dropbox, unless, of course, you upload an infected file yourself, or you share files with someone and they send you an infected file. You simply cannot get a virus by just storing your files on Dropbox.
