Sync ate my files

Sync ate my files

Explorer | Level 3

Well, since I can’t find how to contact Dropbox, here we go. During setup, the question of syncing came up. It made sense to me that Dropbox was synced to my computer. I had no idea that it meant it was copying every file on my Mac to the site, so I said okay. Noticing that it was grabbing everything that I’ve had on there for years, I tried to stop the sync and it wouldn’t work. I couldn’t delete every single file afterwards - there were 1000s since I used to own a business, so I did an apparently dumb thing and deleted the application during the download. So now all of my files are completely lost in cyberspace. I was 5 chapters into writing a book. Gone. All my prior business info. Gone. I made an irreparable mistake but if anyone knows how I can recover my files I’d be grateful.

Hey @Lolonels, thanks for reaching out to us and sorry to hear about your frustration.

Just to make sure that we cover as much initial troubleshooting as possible, could you let me know if you see the files on the website, in your deleted files tab, any folder locally, or your Trash/Recycling Bin?

Let me know what you find, cheers!

I have checked for the files everywhere. They are not in deleted items, trash, etc and can’t be found using a local file search.
