My dropbox has been checking for updates for more than a month. The sync randomly went through about 3 weeks ago, but its back to checking for updates now. I work on a few files regularly, and these are not syncing between uses as they did prior to earlier this year. Please help.

Here is my screenshot. I've tried your other suggestions, but none helped.

I’m in the same boat, except Dropbox hasn’t synced properly for years. Some folders it does, others it doesn’t.
I’ve regularly had to do it all manually, cleaning up folders and making sure the Dropbox files and the desktop files are the same.
The syncing has gone on for months and nothing happens. I’ve tried pausing it but nothing ever changes.
I’ve looked at the link that was referred to in this thread and cannot see anything that matches what the page is talking about. This is what I see under the account preferences:
It is impossible to sign in now.
I have reinstalled Dropbox to no avail.
It’s one of many, many issues I have with Dropbox but I’m trying to pace myself …

Hi @Megan, thank you for getting back to me! If I hover the mouse over the icon in the Windows 10 taskbar, it says, ‘Updating Dropbox account’, which is what I believe it says when I reboot the computer and Dropbox starts up.
However, I paused it earlier today so when I click on the icon and the window comes up, it says ‘Pausing’ on the bottom line. Yesterday, I could still unpause it, but not today.
The version number is 123.4.4832.
(Edit: @ did nothing yesterday and showed no users to tag … I see it is working today.)

Hi Lori, thank you. Not all the steps shown there worked for me (I can’t see a profile picture or my initials) but I tried the remaining steps. This was the first result:
I then tried to fix permissions as suggested. That appeared more promising:
but sadly that has not changed the behaviour of the program. I repeated the steps to be on the safe side, but the same messages result.
