The windows 10 dropbox app fails to startup on Windows startup.

The windows 10 dropbox app fails to startup on Windows startup.

The Windows 10 Dropbox app now fails to start at Windows startup.

This means that offline files are not sync'd until I manually startup the app each time.

My settings have the checkbox ticked to startup the App at startup.

It used to work. Not now. I have uninstalled the Dropbox program/re-installed it - no better. Any ideas?

Thanks for checking that out for me, @TonJ

Could you try reinstalling the desktop app once again? To do this, you can follow the steps below:

  • Save and quit all apps that access files in the Dropbox folder.
  • Stop the Dropbox desktop app from running by selecting Quit Dropbox from the desktop app's settings.
  • Uninstall Dropbox.
  • Reboot your computer to make sure the uninstall is complete.
  • Download and install the newest version of the desktop app.

Note that if you're on a Basic (free) account, since there's a three device limit, you may need to make sure that you have less than three connected on your Security tab to continue.

In any case, let me know how it goes, thanks!

Hi there @TonJ, thanks for reaching out to us.

At first, great work on the initial troubleshooting - it definitely helps us have a better understanding of the issue at hand.

Could you also confirm for me the version of the Dropbox desktop application that you have currently running on your device?

Looking forward to hearing back from you!

Thanks for the reply. I couldn't find the version from the app itself, but I now see that Windows list of apps shows it as 97.4.467.

Thanks for your swift reply, @TonJ

You mentioned in your original post that you've got the Dropbox desktop app checked to launch when you start your computer.

However, could you make sure that the desktop app is set to do so from both your desktop app's settings and your computer's? More specifically, check that:

  • The box next to "Start Dropbox on system startup" is checked under your desktop app's Preferences.
  • Dropbox is listed as one of your Startup items or to add it to your Startup folder. You can find more about this, here

Let me know how it goes, thanks!

Yes. Dropbox is set to startup in both places.

Thanks

The current version is 97.4.467. The same as the oe I re-installed recently (which was faulty).

On startup today the Dropbox App was running correctly.

Thanks for the advice. Next time I have such a problem I'll re-install a 2nd time, if needed!

I am happy to close this now...
