Re-opening issue - ubuntu right click on file does not show dropbox options

gebbione

Re-opening the same issue as described at https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-installs-integrations/Ubuntu-18-04-quot-right-click-link-quo...

Jay from Dropbox locked the ticket suggestion to contact support but there is no real support on the dropbox site, just the bot that is not helful at all.

Can someone suggest how to fix the problem?

Any other information that might help in fixing this bug?

Hey there @gebbione, thanks for posting!

Just to cover some basics, can you let me know if reinstalling helps with this at all? Please bear in mind the 3 device limit if you're using a Basic free account.

Also, to have a better idea of your setup, can you let me know some more info about the device you're using?

For the specific info that would be helpful to know, you can check out the minimum requirements for the desktop app here.

Hi @daphne, I am aware of the 3 devices limit.
I am running on ubuntu as reported in great detail in my previous post.

I have tried re-installing and made no difference using the 64 bits deb file as per https://www.dropbox.com/install?os=linux

Dropbox works partially, ie files are in sync but I have to go to the website to manually generate a link or shared them.

I have the issue on Ubuntu 20.04 - after right click on entities in my Dropbox folder I can see in menu only 'Dropbox -> Move to Dropbox'.

I tried to reinstall app from deb or via 'dropbox update'

Command 'dropbox sharelink PATH' works. The issue occurs in Nautilus.

My env:

I still have this issue both on my laptop running ubuntu 20.04 and desktop running ubuntu 18.04.

Right-click on file usually does not bring up the "Dropbox" menu that gives me the link to the file. Sometimes it does though, even with the same file for which it usually does not.

Dropboxs syncs fine with the files on my own drive, it is just this feature that does not work.

Hi @samsamy4,

Sounds like you're clicking an entry NOT in your Dropbox folder. In such a case the only option is "Move to Dropbox" as you mentioned.

There are caching issues in Dropbox daemon, so the issue doesn't occur only in Nautilus! Yes, recently daemon support for Nautilus plugin seems degrades dramatically. Getting links using Nautilus context menu (Dropbox plugin for Nautilus actually) gets almost unusable. Once cached using control script, it could be received in context menu too, but the exercise gets become meaningless in that case (you already have the link). I want to fill the "picture" with a detail you have missed. Once received a particular file link, have you tried change the link using the web interface for example (delete and recreate)? Is the link you gonna get using "dropbox sharelink" is still correct?! 🧐 Try it. Just one more bug. Restarting the daemon (cache flush) fixes the issue. But why?... 🤷 Let's hope @Daphne will forward signal to the development team. Let's hope...

By the way... The Ubuntu Focal current release is 20.04.2, so update it. 😉 That's nothing related to this bug.

Good luck... to all of us.

So I re-opened this ticket about 2 weeks ago but if not wrong I have seen no interaction from dropbox about this. Is anyone from Dropbox ever going to try and help about it?

Could you let me know the ticket number for that @gebbione, so I can check on this from my side?
