Ubuntu 19.04: Opening Dropbox folder from the tray icon menu no longer works

Ubuntu 19.04: Opening Dropbox folder from the tray icon menu no longer works

Marco L.
Helpful | Level 6

After upgrading to Ubuntu 19.04, clicking "Open Dropbox Folder" in the menu of the Dropbox system tray icon  no longer works.

The problem should be easy to solve for Dropbox developers: when clicking "Open Dropbox folder" on the Dropbox icon, it tries to open the Gnome file manager (Nautilus/Files) with the command "nautilus --no-desktop" which used to work with previous Gnome versions, but doesn't work anymore. The right command to issue seems to be only "nautilus" (without the "--no-desktop" option), as otherwise, it generates the following error message in terminal:  "Option --no-desktop unknown"

Here's a workaround, while we wait (pray?) for the devs to fix it: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1136473/dropbox-menu-no-longer-opens-folder-or-website

I can confirm this. Workaround: place the following script in /usr/local/bin/nautilus:

#!/bin/bash

ARGS=()
for var in "$@"; do
# Ignore known bad arguments
[ "$var" != '--no-desktop' ] && ARGS+=("$var")
done

/usr/bin/nautilus "${ARGS[@]}"

@Walter - It looks like this issue was brought up 5 months ago here: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/issues/774

Is it possible to send that link to the developers so that they can take a look at it if needed?

Open Dropbox Folder icon option not working on Linux Pop!_OS

Moobb
New member | Level 2

This is similar to

Gnome 3.28 (Fedora 28/linux): Opening file manager from the tray icon menu no longer works

but although marked as solved there I could not see the solution. Everything works on Dropbox but  the option to open Dropbox folder from icon. This happened once upgraded to POP!_OS 19.04, would work fine in previous version. If running from terminal get the error message

Unknown option --no-desktop

so it seems the case of running the  command "nautilus --no-desktop" without the --no-desktop option, but I don't know where to fix this

Many thanks Jane, I have implemented the temporary fix in /usr/local/bin/nautilus and it now works, will wait for the official fix

I'm using Dropbox v75.4.141 on Ubuntu 19.04 and Nautilus is still not opened by 'Open Dropbox Folder' in the menu. Is this still a known issue?
