Unable to open Dropbox files in shared folders

New member | Level 2
New member | Level 2

I created a shared file of documents. I can open and see all documents, but others seem to be unable to open the files unless they have Microsoft Outlook or are using a Mac. It seems to be an issue with word files, but also possibly PDFs. Is there some way of saving files to the folders that I should know about so that this doesn't happen. It sort of defeats the whole purpose of Dropbox if I can't share files with others.

Hi there, there’s several reasons why files might not open.

Firstly, what types of files are these, docx, xlsx, eml? Are you/they opening the files on the Dropbox site, or opening it from the Finder/Explorer window? What error do they get specifically? Is this only happening for Mac users, or also Windows users?

Any further information you can provide would be great!
