You will get betas as well regardless of that tick box if you have ever installed one.

I have never installed a Dropbox beta, ever. I've only ever used the dropbox.com/install link to download the current stable version on any machine I've used Dropbox on. Something happened that wasn't my doing.

While I do believe this one might have been a brain fart, Dropbox will push betas out to groups of people that aren't on the beta channel if it corrects an issue that a particular group is or might be having. Usually you'll see this happen within a specific subset of users. That doesn't seem to be the case here.

Follow that link that Mark posted to the Beta section for updates if you're interested.

Thanks for your reports, and we’re sorry for the confusion. We wanted to address some of the questions in this thread:

  • What happened?  We inadvertently rolled out an internal build of the Dropbox client to some of our users this morning. If you have the internal build, you’ll see a jump in the client build number (9xxx). Rest assured, your files will continue to sync normally.

  • What next? We’ve rolled out an initial update that returns users to the public build. We’re working on a second update that will revert the build numbering. Alternatively, you can uninstall your current client and manually reinstall v19.

Many thanks.

Thanks for the update, Ross. We figured it was something simple like that.
