Using Dropbox to sync my documents and pictures. One drive is stopping this

Using Dropbox to sync my documents and pictures. One drive is stopping this

Hello, We have in the past used OneDrive to sync important folders. I now want to use DropBox. I have unlinked my computer and unlinked my account from Ondrive but Dropbox still thinks one Drive is connected to my folders. I'd really like some help getting Dropbox to sync these folders please.

The pc is a Lenovo all in one. Fully upto date purchased onlt 3 weeks ago (Oct 2020)

Thanks in advance

Paul

Hi @PaulBoon, thanks for contacting us!

As this is related to how OneDrive connects to your computer, if it's affecting the Dropbox app, then I'd recommend getting in contact with Microsoft for support on how to completely disable that service from the folders you want to sync.

They would have more specialist information regarding OneDrive to help you out.

Thank you for the reply @Jay. The only issue is that the One Drive community don't appear to be very keen to help as I am dropping their product in favour of an alternative.

Would you know if there is a way that Dropbox could override the settings. We are subscribed to extra space so its not that I'm after something for nothing. Any other suggestions would be great.

Thanks for your time.

Since unlinking/uninstalling OneDrive, have you rebooted your computer at all, @PaulBoon?

If not, please do that and see if you're able to enable the computer backup in Dropbox.

Otherwise, if you still receive an error during the setup, please let me know which version of the Dropbox app you have installed.

Thank you for the reply Daphne. The computer actually bellongs to my elderly nieghbour. I explained how to remove a program via add/remove programs but I need to check that they have done this. I did the unlinking of the account and PC for them so I know that bit has been done for sure. I'm going to talk them through remote desktop set up so I can help them without having to visit. (They are petrified of catching C-19, which is totally understandable) I'll get back to you as soon as I have checked.

Thank you for your time.

Of course, that's completely understandable @PaulBoon!

Just give me a nudge whenever you've had the chance to check on this, and we'll go from there.

Stay safe!

Hello @Daphne .

I have been to check on my nieghbour again and they have uninstalled Onedrive using Add and Remove Programs. They have also restarted their PC several times since. So I tried to tell Dropbox to sync the Documents and Pictures folder again and I get the same message that it can't backup this folder becaus OneDrive is synching it.

If you have time to give me a couple of pointers that would be great. Thank you for your help.

It sounds like OneDrive is still active for some reason. Have they rebooted their machine to ensure it was completely uninstalled on the machine?

Hi @Jay

Yes, I even did it today just to make sure. I also searched for any OneDrive entries in the list when using the Add or Remove programs function but couldn't find anything else remaining.

Thanks

Paul

I'm not sure what else to suggest, the message itself states that OneDrive is still preventing the move. I can only recommend checking with them directly for more details on how to uninstall it fully, since it is related to their app.
