Now when the number of devices are limited to three it would be nice to know what constitutes a device.

Is it single device when several users are logged in on a multiuser computer; are two identical virtual machine two devices, etc.?

Where a computer is concerned (opposed to a phone or tablet), think of it more like installations rather than devices. If you have a computer with, for example, three user accounts on the operating system, and each user links to the same Dropbox account, you've just hit the three device limit for that account.

So, basically, a device is any phone, tablet or any installation of Dropbox on a computer, when all linked to the same account.

Hi Hakelm,

Here's Dropbox's official help document about the three-device limit.

And here's a Zapier article about it that might be useful as well.
