Why am I getting an error when trying to open older files?

New member | Level 2
New member | Level 2

When I try to open a file from my own computer link via the dropbox app (not the dropbox website),  I get this message:

This site can’t be reached

The webpage at file:///C:/Users/lisa/Dropbox/[file name].pdfmight be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

ERR_FAILED

The only files I can open are the ones I just uploaded, not any older files. What's the issue?

Sorry to hear that Lisa - what's the status of the app at the moment?  Is it "up to date" or still syncing changes?

Can you access the same files normally on our website at: https://www.dropbox.com/ ?

Let me know what you find and we'll take it from there @Lisa25

Glad to hear it's working now Lisa!

You can also change your bandwidth settings should you need to boost the syncing process up as outlined in the following Help Center article:

Let me know if you have any more questions and in the meantime, enjoy the rest of your day @Lisa25!

Hi, Walter,

My desktop app is checking for changes. Yes, I can open the files on dropbox.com.

My app preferences are set at Smart Sync - online only.

It looks like it's working now - just must have been a very long sync session. Sorry for the worries!
