Why do I have a Dropbox App running, I have to close?

I understand @tdk647; I’ve now located your open support request on our system & I could see that you’ve chatted in to my colleague, where you’ve made some progress together, so it would be best to gather all relevant details under the same email chain for convenience’ sake.

As I'd like to help you on that as much as I can on my end, I’ve now made a note of your comments here on your existing correspondence & I've increased your support priority internally. I hope that this helps you to a certain extent!

From there @eisbach@snowboardingbum & @InaH, your last comments make me think that you had manually opted in to try our new desktop application, could this be the case by any chance? If so, let me quickly suggest reverting back to using Finder as your default option to open your files:

Spoiler
  1. Click the Dropbox icon in your menu bar.
  2. Click your profile picture or initials in the upper right corner.
  3. Click Preferences….
  4. Click the dropdown next to Open folders in: and choose Finder.
I hope that this helps you, however please keep me updated here if you need further assistance in any way. Thanks again!

I could see that you’ve chatted in to my colleague, where you’ve made some progress together,

That's funny. The reality is he was completely unhelpful and seems to fail to understand that the persistent launching of the desktop app is a NEW behavior.
Like everyone else, I understand how to change the preferences that don't address the issue but am still irritated and frustrated that the desktop app continues to launch at login and relaunches after it's been quit.

Sorry to hear that @tdk647; I’ve now made sure to escalate your open ticket to a team specialist in form of a question & I’ve also reached out to you directly on my end @eisbach, so as to get going with that internally. Thanks to both for your patience in the meantime!

The most irritating thing about all of your responses is the lack of acknowledgement that you are forcing the desktop app to launch alongside the file syncing service automatically without my permission.

And so I will repeat my frustration, I want the file syncing service to launch but I don’t want the desktop app to launch at all, I don’t want the Dropbox desktop app running and on my dock. Period.

I understand that this behavior hasn’t been ideal to you @tdk647 & I’ve made sure to include all your observations on your open ticket with our team specialist. Thanks for bearing with us while we’re working on that!

@Jane According to this (https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Installs-integrations/Can-t-remove-Dropbox-icon-from-Mac-OS-Dock/td-...) there is a way to 'opt-out'/revert/stop the desktop app from launching and you or someone in support knows how to do it.

So how is that done?
