Why does Dropbox on iOS not support opening files from other apps?
Attached is a picture of it not working in iOS 9.
But it works in the box.com app. And works for iCloud of course.
So is Dropbox going to get this ability soon?
Thanks for your message. Could you tell me what you see when you go to Settings > Textatic?
Would you be able to send a screenshot of the Settings for the app?
Thanks so much in advance, I'll have a look into it 😉
Hi. Thank you for offering to investigate. This issue makes Dropbox way harder to use on iOS than iCloud and Box.
Attached are all the Textastic settings (I stitched the images together).
The problem, I'm pretty sure, is that the Dropbox app didn't implement the iOS file chooser open method, just the import one. Which means other apps I've tested in (Apple Pages, Apple Numbers, Readdle PDF Expert) also can't open files from Dropbox.
I also would like to use Pages to open a file from Dropbox using the open dialog built in to iOS 9. And automatically upload it if i save changes.
I noticed today that Dropbox added a custom integration with the Adobe Reader app, just like they added integrations with the Microsoft Office apps.
This makes me worried that Dropbox has a business strategy to only support these kind of custom integrations and not the iOS-native document management features...
Yep cannot agree more. This lack of support is really holding us from switching our entire company to Dropbox....and still no answer from Dropbox,
Like you David, I'm afraid it is a corporate decision, that is really surprising giving the fact one of the strength of Dropbox on Mac/Windows is it's top notch file system integration....and on iOS the file system IS the document picker. Go figure....
