Why has my badge icon turned plaid?

Lately the Dropbox badge on my document windows is showing up with white squares on the blue background (screenshot attached). Any idea what's going on?

No syncing or other problems associated with this.

Have you by any chance tried to toggle the Dropbox badge option to Never show, select Apply, and then switch it back to If others present or Always show (depending on the option you had it previously)? 
 
Also, did you by any chance reboot your device? Maybe that will do the trick.
