Why is the new version of Dropbox using so much memory on my mac?
Currently Dropbox is using 258.9 MB of memory.
I don't use Smart Sync.
I don't have more than 300,000 files synced to my mac.
I don't use the desktop app or want to use it, I use the standard Dropbox app that lives in the Menubar.
I don't use 'Selective Sync'
Dropbox version: 79.4.143
macOS High Sierra version: 10.13.4

Hi @512kilobytes,
Just one note: You use the desktop application in fact! You are talking for same thing. There is only one application.
Hope this cast some light.
There is also a Desktop app that is different from the standard Dropbox app that lives in the menubar. (see link below)
Hi @512kilobytes,
Yes, there are different versions of Dropbox application. Generally You have to use only one instance! This same application can provide different ways to access the files in sync.
On the question why so much memory is engaged I don't know. I'm an user like you.
Good luck.
Hey there @512kilobytes,
Indeed, as @Здравко mentions, the new desktop app and the one you're referring to is one and the same.
If you find that the desktop app is using a lot of CPU or RAM on your computer, you can check out this article - although from what I understand, you already have. Awesome work!
In any case, I'd be more than happy to share your thoughts about the new desktop app with the dev team.
If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to get back to us. Thanks!

Hi @Lusil,
I don't like the new desktop app it uses far too much memory.
I don't want or like any of the new features the new desktop app offers.
All I want are my files to sync in the background.
Turn off "Early releases" from your settings and install the stable release.
I don't see "Early releases" in settings.
Did you click the link?
Sorry I thought you meant settings in the Dropbox app 🙂
I clicked the link and "Early releases" setting was already off (see screenshot below)
