Windows File Name Character Restriction Issue

Explorer | Level 3
Hi There, I'm using Windows 10 Pro 64bit and Dropbox version 25.4.28 and I keep running into the Windows 260 character limit that is not meant to occur with recent versions of Dropbox. "The file names would be too long for the destination folder. You can shorten the file name and try again, or try a location that has a shorter path." I've already enabled the Win32 long path settings in Local Group Policy Editor. Can somebody give me any more tips or suggestions as to how to fix this please? Thanks very much. Brian.

Thats a relatively old version of Dropbox now.

Try updating and see if that helps: www.dropbox.com/downloading

There is a Windows 10 fix for the 260 Character filename limit, that has been around it seems forever, which is built in to Windows 10 from Aniversary Edition IIRC. Unfortunately it is turned off by default, even more unfortunately the only official way to turn it on is only available on the Professional & Corporate editions, not the home edition!

The good news! If you install a recent edition of Python 3 for Windows then, during the installation. it will offer to turn on the fix for you! Of course the bonus is that you will then have a working installation of Python and can start to have a play with it.
