cannot download/open desktop version

good morning. cannot download open desktop version to macbook. error message says permission error. read document in help menu regarding this error but steps outlined did not solve problem. software will download but not install. have mobile version on 2 devices and need to use/sync with desktop version. thanks in advance.

Delete and redownload the app, and then follow these steps

Hi @william25, are you an administrator on your MacBook or just a standard user? Are you prompted for a admin password when you attempt to install? Can you upload a screenshot of the error?

hi gregoc. thanks for the reply.

I am the macbook administrator, entered a valid password when prompted.

cant send a screenshot, but the error message said:

couldnt start dropbox.

this is usually because of a permissions error. storing your home folder on a network share can also cause an error. (this is not the case).

Hey @william25, I just wanted to check in on this and see if you’re still having some trouble? 
 
If you are, could you please confirm if you were able to install the desktop app or not, and send us a screenshot (without personal info) of the error message so as to have a visual understanding? You can do so by clicking one of the following options:
