Clicking share on a document reveals the copy link option. But the link is not hot when pasted. What is the trick when trying to copy the link? It disappears in a few seconds.

This wouldn't be anything to do with Dropbox, but instead is likely your mail client. Copying a link just puts the link in your clipboard. There's nothing special about it, and not settings to control any aspect of it. It's just a copy. You can test this by pasting the link into a text file to confirm that you have the link in your clipboard.
If you're mail client isn't accepting it when you paste it, I'd look to something in your mail client that is preventing the link from being pasted properly.
Thanks Rich, for replying. Here's the confusing point. I have two doc in the same file. Both links were to be shared in the same email. One link copied hot and the other didn't, within minutes of each other. So I think that rules out the mailserver angle.
And is it necessary to hover over or copy the share in any way? It lingers so briefly. Or does merely clicking SHARE drop it into clipboard. Thanks.

Simply clicking Copy Link is enough to copy the link to the clipboard. There are no other settings or controls that affect the link. You're just copying a URL.
