I am trying to solve some issues with dropbox not appearing in the system tray so I am attempting to uninstall it so I can do a fresh re-install. But I can't uninstall it because when I try to I get a message saying it's open. But I can't see where it's available to be selected to close it because it's not showing in my system tray. Can anyone assist in overcoming this? How can I close my Dropbox app? Where can I see that it's open? It does not show up in Finder.

Have you tried a force quit from the Apple Menu?

Oddly the icon shows up in my apps and in Finder but not in the Force Quit menu. To me it doesn't look like it has been started, and when I try starting it by clicking the icon or the Finder dropbox.app listing nothing happens. I seem to only be able to open it from going to the dropbox website.

I am still unable to uninstall it. If I try dragging the app from the list in Finder or from the icons in the icon window it won't move anywhere, for example it won't move to the trash. It doesn't show up in Force Quit or on the Menu Bar or Tray. When I try to start the app nothing happens (which is why I thought to uninstall and reinstall). The only way for me to start dropbox is from the website, and also I can access my files when I click the Dropbox folder Favorites pane.

Hey @Julie3, let's check some things together:

 

When you click on the Dropbox app, do you see a Dropbox icon on your menu bar as well as check marks on the files & folders in your Dropbox folder?

 

If nothing happens, can you please download this offline installer and try re-installing?

 

Please let us know if you get error messages or what happens after you attempt to reinstall.
